Hanover, Va. – On Monday, January 10, 2022, deputies, along with Hanover Fire-EMS, responded to the 9200 block of Beaverdam Trail for the report of a 10-month-old in cardiac arrest. Once on scene, first responders immediately rendered aid to assist the child. Hanover Fire-EMS transported the child to a local hospital.
An investigation immediately ensued. After multiple interviews and collection of evidence, it was found that illegal narcotics were present inside the home at the time of the child’s emergency. This information was not shared with medical personnel or deputies on scene. It is believed that the child breathed in the narcotic which caused the cardiac event.
Thankfully, the 10-month-old child made a full recovery and is currently in the custody of a responsible family member.
As a result of the investigation and materials collected, both of the child’s parents, Keith Barker, 43, and Shaunna Drinkwater, 25, have been arrested and charged with Felony Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance and Felony Child Neglect.
Barker was transported to Henrico County Jail on outstanding warrants and is being held without bond. Drinkwater was transported to Pamunkey Regional Jail.
