On May 12, 2020, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Hanover County Public School System about a highly offensive post that appeared on social media and occurred in Hanover County. An investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office. Within hours, it was found that the matter did involve juveniles from Hanover County. A charge has been obtained for the responsible individual for violation of § 18.2-427, use of profane, threatening, or indecent language over public airways or by other methods.
Sheriff David R. Hines would like to thank the members of the Sheriff’s Office that were involved in bringing this matter to a quick resolution. A special thanks goes out to the Hanover Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for working so diligently with this investigation.
Sheriff Hines commented, “This behavior is highly offensive, inappropriate and has no place in our society and furthermore is illegal. Our strength of community comes from the tradition of family and unity that defines Hanover County.”
