Hanover, VA – On Saturday, September 22, 2018, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a deputy came upon a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Mechanicsville Turnpike near the Bell Creek Road intersection. The deputy found an adult female suffering from serious injuries after being struck by a 2014 Honda sport utility vehicle. The female was immediately transported by Hanover Fire-EMS to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The adult female pedestrian has been identified as Dinese Elizabeth Smith, 65, of Drakes Branch, Virginia.
Preliminary investigation reveals the 2014 Honda was traveling eastbound on Mechanicsville Turnpike just prior to the Bell Creek Road intersection, when it collided with the pedestrian who was attempting to cross traffic in an unlit section of the roadway.
