HANOVER, VA – Investigators have determined that on Saturday, July 25, 2015, a 5 year old child accidentally shot a 7 year old child with a handgun while the family was visiting a home for sale in the 20000 block of Beaverdam Road. The investigation revealed that while the family was viewing a home for sale, the two children followed a cat into a bedroom. One child followed the cat under the bed, where the handgun was stored. The victim was shot in the leg and had non-life threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office has conferred with the Hanover County Commonwealth’s Attorney, and no criminal charges will be brought in this incident.

HANOVER, VA. – The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental shooting involving a juvenile on Saturday July 25, 2015.
At approximately 12:07PM, Saturday July 25, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office responded to the 20000 block of Beaverdam Road in Beaverdam, VA. Upon arrival, the victim, a 7 year old child was observed with injuries resulting from a handgun described as non-life threatening. The victim was transported via med-flight to MCV for treatment.
Investigators are still collecting information and consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
