Update – On Sunday, November 6, 2016, Marcus D. Wright turned himself in to Sheriff’s Office authorities and was arrested without incident. Wright was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, felony unauthorized use of a vehicle, felony eluding, petit larceny, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, assault, reckless driving and illegal window tint. Wright is currently being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail with no bond.

Hanover, VA – On Friday, November 4, 2016, at approximately 10:49 a.m., a deputy initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation on Mechanicsville Turnpike near Interstate 295. During the course of the stop, the suspect, Marcus Darrell Wright, 34, of Aylett, became combative, assaulted two deputies and fled on foot.
The suspect fled towards I-295. A motorist had pulled over to the shoulder of I-295 and was outside his vehicle. The suspect then jumped into the vehicle and stole it. The victim’s vehicle has since been recovered in Essex County.
As a result of this incident, both deputies sustained minor injuries.
Wright is currently wanted on the following charges: Two counts of Assault on Law Enforcement, Eluding, Reckless driving, Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, Larceny and Possession of Marijuana.
