Taking control of your health is top priority. You and your spouse can earn a combined total of $360 in annual insurance premium reductions ($240 employee only or $360 employee + spouse) for participating in this FREE, personalized and confidential wellness program designed to help you be your best.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Sworn personnel, who, while enlisted in one of the five branches of the U.S. Military, successfully completed both their initial “Basic” training, their designated Occupational Specialty Training (MOS or Rate), and who have honorably fulfilled the terms of their initial military obligation, may be credited 20 education points toward the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Career Development Program.
In lieu of applying the education points derived above, sworn personnel who have otherwise honorably fulfilled the terms of their initial military obligation may elect to apply credit hours as recommended by the American Council on Education as reported on their Joint Services Transcript (JST).
PAID MILITARY LEAVE
The Hanover County Sheriff's Office will grant members of any reserve component of the United States Armed Forces an excused absence from work with full pay for up to fifteen (15) workdays in each federal fiscal year or federally funded military training duty.
GI BILL® BENEFITS
Eligible personnel can be granted additional monetary benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs during the academy and the field training program. PRIOR SERVICE PURCHASE PROGRAM (PSP)
Prior Service Purchase program is a voluntary program that allows officers who served in the military to purchase service credit in the Virginia Retirement System.* The service credit you purchase will add to your total years of service credit, and therefore increase the monthly allowance you and your qualified survivors would receive from the Virginia Retirement System.
