The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Training Unit consists of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, and 4 training officers. The unit also employs a part-time civilian Training Specialist and a part-time civilian Support Services Coordinator.
In 2010, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office was authorized by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to operate as an Independent Criminal Justice Training Academy. The Hanover County Sheriff’s Academy is responsible for all in-service and specialized training for the Sheriff’s Office as well as the administration of a Law Enforcement Basic Academy.
In addition to facilitation of the Sheriff’s Office’s training needs, the Training Division is also responsible for management of the Sheriff’s Office’s vehicle fleet and works closely with the Personnel Division and Crime Prevention to provide additional logistical support for the agency.
